Note: Syntypes: on the coast southwest of the crater Lua Pele [Kilauea], U.S. Expl. Exped. s.n. (US!); Port Byron [Hilo], Rev. J. Diell s.n. (P). St. John's lectotypification (Rhodora 87: 568. 1985) was not effective because he cited a US specimen of the Diell collection, but no such specimen exists, nor is there evidence that such a specimen ever did exist.
